Conventions of a Hip Hop video are as following;- Conventions such as Mainstream, old school, underground
- Hip Hop has also effected modern popular culture and the media, for instance, dancing and rapping being featured in non- Hip Hop songs.
- Rap in Hip Hop songs has also changed, the music used to be more about people having something to say regarding life, politics and society in general.

- Also cultural pillars such as; DJing, MCing, Graffiti, Beat boxing, Breakdancing, Language, censorship, product placement, media and diversification can also be found within the Hip Hop genre.
